There's a rule of thumb that I stick to while navigating the online world: 

Assume that everyone is full of crap ... until they prove otherwise! 

Anyone who's online can bestow "expert" status on themselves, regardless of how long they've been around or how good they really are. 

They can roll out of bed today, declare they know everything about _____, and they're off to the races - even if they know nothing about whatever they profess to be an expert at (or what they do share is just recycled stuff from the real experts)
