Years ago I read a book by someone who achieved a lot of success in the personal
development space.
Back then he was a big deal, his name was all over the place.
But when I Google him nowadays, he doesn't seem to have much going on.
I'm not saying that you can't find him (you can), but it seems like he hasn't done much since he hit it big back then.
I was talking with a coach, and during the conversation this guy's name came up.
According to him, he hit the jackpot back then and got a huge head start on everyone else in the space.
And then ...
He coasted.
Rested on his laurels.
Didn't get actively involved in social media, didn't do much with email marketing and other stuff.
He thought he didn't have to put in effort, that his name would bring in the business.
He bought into his own press, and stopped growing.
And he's suffered with that approach.
You can't take things for granted in business.
I'm not preaching from the soapbox here - I once bought into my own press, and it ended in a spectacular, messy failure.
Now I err on the side of being on offence rather than defence.
I never want to take things for granted.
I've seen how quickly things can evaporate if you aren't growing.
With coaching, I want to always be growing.
