One of my favourite movies, which not a lot of people have seen, is "Bulworth".
It stars Warren Beatty as a disillusioned Californian Senator named Jay Billington Bulworth who wants to end it all, so he hires an assassin to kill him so it won’t look like a suicide - and his family can get the
$10 million life insurance payout from it.
Since he knows he’s going to die shortly, he figures he might as well take his politician’s filter off and just tell the truth.
Everyone is shocked to hear a politician say what
he’s really thinking (with no sugar-coating, spin, or concern for political correctness) and his popularity soars .. by the end of the film he’s even talked about as a potential Presidential candidate!
Although the movie gets a little silly with Bulworth rapping and falling in love with Halle Berry's character, the part about a politician shooting straight is
a good lesson for people in the online space.
Whenever I go on podcasts to be interviewed, I try to take the "Bulworth Approach" and keep the filter off, since so much of the talk in the podcasting/online world is sanitized and dull ...
So when people hear someone actually saying what they think, it makes for a better (more authentic) interview.
I've opened up time to be interviewed on more podcasts this fall, so if you'd like to have an unfiltered guest on your show you can book me here:
