The reason so many entrepreneurs struggle is they're trying to drive down the
road with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake.
The "brake" is different for each person. It could be:
- a fear of failure
- a fear of success
- self-esteem issues
- a fear of what others think of them
- etc
So they hold back, and it kills their results.
Of the various common brakes, the one I'm seeing most often is the fear of what others think.
In the "old days" (pre-Internet), people criticized others - but it was usually behind closed doors and you probably didn't hear it.
Nowadays, a stranger 1000 miles away can do it anonymously with a few strokes of the keyboard.
Although criticism from strangers can sting, it's the criticism from those closest to you that has the most potential to harm. You tend to put more stock in those reactions, so they're harder to ignore.
This is a real problem ...
I've had clients refuse to post their business message on social media because of what their friends and family might think.
I've even had some hold back because they have old high school friends on there (who they haven't spoken to in years) and they don't want to come across as annoying.
My suggestion? If you're so worried about their opinions that you're damaging your business, drop them. Why stay connected to someone who doesn't support your goals?
