Anyone who follows me knows that I’m not a big fan of brain-picking.
I’m not trying to be snobby here, but it’s simple math:
If I’m getting a brain-picking request
every day, that works out to 365 of them every year.
Should I take time to help all those people, it would distract me from helping my paying clients.
Years ago, I tried to assist everyone who reached out to “pick my
brain”.
The result was I ended up tired and feeling like a french fry being fought over by a bunch of hungry seagulls at the beach.
So I got very clear on boundaries, and decided that I would only allow my clients to pick my
brain.
What a change …
I often get messages from my laser coaching clients who have questions or issues, and I welcome them and do my best to help ... I don't consider that "brain-picking"!
But by enforcing boundaries with non-clients, I'm able to show up at 100% for my clients.
My suggestion is to be ruthless when handling brain-picking requests.
I’m not saying that you can’t help those people in some way.
For example, I might point someone to a podcast episode or blog post that answers their question. But I don’t recommend engaging in long back-and-forth conversations or booking free hour-long calls with them.
If you’d like to have me in your corner and available for brain-picking requests, you can become a laser coaching client of mine for less than $84/month.
I just opened up a few spots for my laser coaching, and it’s first-come, first-served.
The deadline is this Sunday night at midnight EST, and you can get the details here:
