As the years go on, I'm getting less patient with cold messages from strangers hitting my social media inboxes.
It's one thing when they "slide into my DMs" with an unsolicited pitch ... annoying, but not the end of the world and I can just ignore it/move on with my day.
But it's frustrating when a stranger messages to start small talk with the goal of leading to a pitch!
They start off slow with something like:
- "Hi Marc"
- "How are you?"
- "So what do you do?" (even though it's all over my profiles)
Etc etc etc.
Once upon a time, I would answer these types, but then the conversation became a game of message ping pong that could last for the whole day (or days):
- "So why did
you become a coach?"
-"What are you working on at the moment?"
-"What's your big goal this year?"
(Or even more intrusive - "How much do you currently make per month?", after talking for two minutes lol)
I now rarely answer these types of messages, since I know where they're ultimately leading to and I don't have the time (or patience) for it.
While people are free to grow their businesses the way they want to, it has to be exhausting to send out a ton of cold DMs every day and do the conversation ping pong game.
I've always preferred to put the right message out in front of the right people, and having those who are interested reach out to
me.
It's like what Karen Cappello teaches ...
She's all about making marketing a "beacon of light" to your ideal clients, which sounds like a better way of doing things than the spray-and-pray approach of cold
DMs.
