Today is Earth Day, and I have a complicated past with the holiday.
20+ years ago, back in my real estate days, I used to mail out a ton of postcards (this was The Stone Age, after all).
I sent out thousands of them every month, and would occasionally get calls from homeowners complaining that I was killing Mother Earth with my postcards.
When I asked them if they ever called the big companies who sent them flyers (ie: Walmart, Canadian Tire, Sobey's, etc) to complain, they didn't have an
answer.
Flash forward to my current life as a coach, and I've gotten blowback from a handful of people over sending out a hard copy, print newsletter for six years (which recently changed to digital, but not because of the environmentalists complaining - rather I could offer more in a digital format) ...
My advice for people who are concerned about the environment, or any social cause?
Instead of losing sleep over silly stuff that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things (ie: some hard copy newsletters being sent out to coaches), earn a lot of money so you can
donate and support the organizations you care about.
I think that will do a lot more to move the needle!
