There’s a reason why people do this – they want a reminder of how quickly their son or daughter is growing, and that’s an easy way to do it.
If you have a dog or a cat, take a look at the earliest picture that you have of them. It’s hard to believe your pet was once that small, isn’t it?
I track certain metrics for the clients that I work with. I want us to know where we’re at
and how far we’ve come. If you don’t track, you lose sight of things.
Think back to your business one year ago from today. It can be hard to remember exactly what it looked like on January 21st, 2015, but you probably have a good sense of how things were going back around that time …
Now, instead of focusing on what you don’t have yet, make a mental note of all the things that you've done in the last 12 months. If you put some time into this, odds are you’ll come up with a
pretty impressive list that you hadn’t even credited yourself for.
When you’re tracking your success, it’s easy to get discouraged when you see the success of other people – but remember the quote:
“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel” (Steve
Furtick)
My brother Matt told me something powerful this week that he learned from editing James Wedmore and Phoebe Mroczek's podcast (which is being released soon, it’s going to be great!). In one of the episodes, James stressed that you shouldn’t compare yourself with people who’ve been at it longer than you’ve been!
So if you’ve been in your particular business for two years, don’t compare yourself to someone who’s been at it for 12
years, since they’ve had a 10 year head-start. If you’re going to compare (and I don’t recommend spending much time worrying about others), look instead at the people who started the same time as you did …
That changes things, doesn’t it?
Pick a few of the most important metrics that you should be tracking for your business, and if you haven’t already started, begin keeping track of your progress.
Good
luck!
Marc
PS: Tracking and progress are a big part of my group program for coaches that starts next week. If you want to get more results as a coach, you can check out what we're doing at www.NaturalBornCoaches.com/AFCgroup!
