Well, THIS is Embarrassing ...

Published: Mon, 02/01/16

I'll preface this with something:

I love sports ...

My favourite is baseball, followed by hockey at #2.  Although I watch a little bit of football, and know enough about it and some players to not embarrass myself (most of the time, see below), I'm not a football guy.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way ...

I had Todd Herman on Natural Born Coaches today.  Todd is the creator of "The 90 Day Year", and a big name in the peak performance world.  He's worked with many Olympic athletes and professional sports teams, so I was keen to pick his brain on stuff that mixed coaching and sports.

Todd has worked with the Cleveland Browns organization in the past, and I asked him about Johnny Manziel, the team's troubled quarterback who can't seem to stay out of trouble off the field (and isn't doing too well on the field, either) .

I asked him how he would handle Manziel if he were his client, and we had a good discussion about it.

The problem?  I mispronounced Manziel's name throughout the interview.  I went with "Zeel" at the end, instead of "Zel" - it must have something to do with the Canadian pronunciation of the letter "z"???

Once would be bad enough, but I did it a number of times.  Todd was a pro about it and didn't correct me.  But my brother Matt, who edits the podcast and is a huge football fan, was ready to strangle me after a bunch of mispronunciations of "Manziel"!

Ah well.  Besides that rookie mistake, it's still a good interview and I think you can learn a lot from Todd Herman (don't hold my football knowledge against him!)

If you'd like to listen to it, here's that link again ...
