Here's The Best Way To Keep Yourself Accountable!

Published: Thu, 03/10/16

If you're having trouble following through on something that you know you should be doing, I have an accountability trick for you to use ...

Full disclosure: I didn't come up with this! I read about it in "Level Up Your Life" by Steve Kamb, and a few coaches that I know - Angela Lauria and Mark J. Silverman - told me that they use it as well.  But if it works for you, feel free to give me credit :)

Ok, so let's say you have something you know you should be doing. Perhaps launching that product that you've been talking about for 3 years.  Or write that book that's been pushed to the back-burner for ages. Or get to the gym 4 times a week ...

Here's what you do:

- Think of a person or organization that you can't stand.  They make your skin crawl, just the sight of them makes you want to turn off the tv and go vomit (You get the idea.)

- Now take a good chunk of money out of your bank (make it a larger amount than $20 - I often hear $500 to $1000 works with this trick.  Make sure it's an amount that would hurt to lose.)

- Give that money to a friend/family member that you trust with your life and tell that person ...

"If I don't (insert your chosen goal) by (insert date), then send this money to (insert person or cause that you hate).  Don't let me off the hook - just do it if I don't do what I promise to do"

Seeing that this is an election year in the United States, choosing your most-hated political candidate is an obvious choice ... choose Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton or whoever will give you the most motivation.

Just think of your hard-earned money going to support that person ... your donation could be the one that puts him/her into the White House!  How does that make you feel???

Now how's that for motivation!

Let me know how it works for you,

Marc
