Nobody likes a Selly McSellALot

This weekend I had a little bit of Facebook group drama, which isn't unexpected since The Coaching Jungle group has grown to 1500 members!

I had some private messages from members who were being given the hard-sell from a few people in the group.  They felt icky enough to message me and let me know ...

Here's the thing:  I have no problem with selling.  You have to sell to help, and Facebook groups are a great way to sell.  I get it.

I'm always talking about the need for coaches to sell more.  If you're providing a valuable service, you deserve to be compensated for that ...

*** BUT (important caveat!) ****

There's a RIGHT way, and a WRONG way to sell on Facebook, and especially in groups.

The way to do it is to provide value to your target market: Answer questions, give tips, help.

If you do it right, you WILL get business!

If you private message someone to get them onto a 90 minute Skype call where you're tugging at their credit card in a desperate attempt to make a sale (and they feel like getting a shower afterwards), then that's not helping anyone.

If you're acting like a horny teenager on your first date, and people feel the need to report the behaviour, I'd argue that you're doing it wrong.

Don't be afraid to sell, but do it the right way.  If you're providing great value 80% of the time, people won't fault you for selling 20% of the time - you've earned that right.

But don't be a "Selly McSellALot".

Cheers,

Marc
