The 162 Game Marathon

Published: Tue, 04/26/16

Even though I'm a Canadian, hockey isn't my favourite sport - baseball is ...

(Gasp - I should lose my Canuck citizenship!)

One thing that baseball fans must have is PATIENCE.

A Major League baseball season is 162 games. Your team plays almost every single day during the season - it only gets a handful of days off every month.

My team, the Blue Jays, haven't caught fire yet and are playing pretty "meh" (which means they aren't doing horrible, but they aren't doing great either.)

It's tempting to get worked up if your team isn't doing well, until you step back and realize there are a lot of games left to play (141 games at the moment.)

Business, like baseball, is a marathon.

You lose one day?  You wake up tomorrow and play the next game.

You can't get too worked up, one day doesn't make or break a business.

I had my usual Sunday night call with my client Scott a few days ago, and he and I were talking about how business can mess with your head.

Scott's a young guy, a 20-something young whippersnapper who's starting to see the tricks that the Entrepreneurial Gods play on people, to test us and see who wants it bad enough.

It can seem lonely when you're a coach/entrepreneur, but know that others are making the same journey.

You can't always see them, but they're on a parallel path.

We're all headed for the same spot - just be patient, and you'll get there.
