Private Jets and Summer Daycare

Published: Thu, 08/04/16

I just finished reading something by Grant Cardone where he mentioned that he invested in a private jet.

Everyone thought he was crazy for doing it.

"Who invests in a private jet???" they all asked him.

At first glance, it looks like a bad move for GC.  It sounds like the equivalent of flushing money down the toilet.

But there's a method to his madness:

Grant is doing big deals.

He has meetings around the country/world where he's working on million(s) dollar deals.

He's playing with huge numbers.

If he can get to these meetings faster, without the usual rigmarole that goes along with traveling, he's going to close more of those deals.

And that means a lot of money being made.

So with the numbers in his world, that jet is actually a smart investment.  If he was flying around to make deals worth a few thousand dollars each, it obviously wouldn't work.

So what does this have to do with coaches?

(Warning: this next section may make me sound like a cold-hearted parent, but hear me out!)

A lot of coaches have their businesses derailed in the summers because suddenly they have the munchkin, or munchkins, running around the house causing all sorts of mayhem.

Some of these coaches (not all) choose to watch their kids in the summer since let's face it, daycare/summer camps/kids activities can get pricey.

So they figure they'll save the expense for those months.  But what happens is their businesses drops significantly - even down to zero clients.

That's not good for a business!

I have my little guy in daycare this summer.  It means that I can work my butt off when he's there, and then I can give him 100% attention when he's home ...

Plus I then have plenty of clients and revenue coming in, so dad's not cranky ...

I still get to do a lot with him in the summer (we just got back from a 3 day camping trip, and we've been having a lot of fun) - but I make much more from my coaching than I spend on daycare for the summer.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't want to spend time with your kids, I'm only showing a different way to look at things.

You've got to invest if you want to grow your business, but there's a way to make it work for everyone.
