Less time, more sales

Published: Sat, 10/22/16

If you've been following me for awhile, you know that I'm not a "four-hour workweek" kind of guy.

Not to knock Tim Ferriss - he's really smart and has achieved a ton of success ... but I'm more in the Gary Vaynerchuk/Grant Cardone camp of grinding and hustling.

Yet I can see the advantages of knowing when to dial it back and conserve your energy:

I read an article recently about businesses that are now seeing the light when it comes to selective time-off, even bucking industry norms to close their doors at times when their competitors are open.

Gasp! That's right, you don't have to be "open for business" 24/7!

And the thing is these businesses are actually seeing way better sales during the times that they are open, since they have better morale and energy from their teams in those times.

There's a car dealership in Bremerton, Washington (near Seattle) that was averaging 90-100 new car sales every month, but saw that only two of those sales were happening on Sundays. So they opted to close every Sunday for "Family Day", and sales went through the roof the rest of the week.

And there's a Mexican restaurant in Idaho that used to stay open year-round, but now sell more in the eight months that they stay open than they used to sell in 12 months.

I'm not recommending that you don't do anything work-related on Sundays, or that you close shop for four months every year. Your business is unique and you'll have to play around and experiment to see what works for you ...

I can tell you that I used to do coaching calls and interviews on the weekends.  It wasn't uncommon for me to be on Skype for most of Saturday evenings on calls, and I wasn't always bright and chipper on Monday mornings when the new week rolled around.

Now, I don't book calls or interviews for the weekends. Saturdays and Sundays are reserved for reading, writing, family and friends, and "Me Time".

And I'm happier.

I've seen it happen with my clients too. Last week, a few of them started shifting their schedules around to increase productivity. So far, so good and the results have been promising.

If you need help shifting your business to make you more productive (and, of course, profitable), book a time to chat with me:
