Earlier this week, I
spent (literally) five minutes doing something that gave an immediate boost to my business:
I asked for testimonials from clients who hadn't given me one yet!
I had four testimonials back that day, and others trickled in the rest of the week.
Here's one of them, from my client Darren Carrington, video impact coach:
“I was not getting traction before
working with Marc, but having him in your corner gives the confidence that when you step into the ring you can take on the world … and win!”
When I launched my new website back in the summer, I gathered testimonials and had some featured on the site.
But since then, I neglected asking for them consistently (Bad, bad Marc!).
Here's the thing about
testimonials:
Although some clients will send unsolicited positive feedback, many won't (even if they're very happy with the service that you provided.)
It doesn't mean that they think you aren't good - but life gets in the way. People get busy, and sending their coach a testimonial isn't top on the list of "to-do's".
So you have to nudge your clients - ask them for something.
Ask and you shall receive ...
It doesn't have to be thousands of words. Some of my best testimonials are just a few sentences long, but capture the clients' experiences perfectly.
The question that I often get is -> "What if I'm a brand new coach and don't have any clients yet?"
Even if you haven't had any paying clients yet, odds are that you've helped people
somehow. And if you've made a difference in someone's life, you shouldn't be afraid to ask for a testimonial.
I know you're getting a lot of emails, and a lot of advice thrown at you every day. But do me a favour and take a few minutes today to send out requests for testimonials.
And once you get them back, don't hide them away!
