Rom coms got it wrong

I'm not a huge fan of Hollywood romantic comedies.

I'm more of a superhero/horror movie kinda guy.

But I know that a lot people are into them. How many Nicholas Sparks books have been made into movies? 174 by now?

I can't fault those who enjoy that type of movie, but I'd caution coaches to avoid treating their business growth like a romantic comedy.

In romantic comedies, something happens to keep the lovestruck guy and gal away from each other.

But the guy usually pursues the girl - not giving up, drooling all over her, and continuing to go after her until she sees the error of her ways and gives in.

The guy stands outside her window at night while singing her love songs and professing his love ...
He calls her 100 times to tell her that he can't live without her ...
He crashes her wedding with a new man to save her and carry her off into the sunset to live happily ever after ...

In real life, such behaviour would be deemed "stalking" and the guy would be in jail, but not in the movies!

Regardless, that approach doesn't work with your potential coaching clients.

They have a finely-tuned radar, and those types of actions will set off warning bells.

You'll come across as desperate and needy, and even if you're able to beat someone down and convince that person to hire you, you're not setting yourself up as an authority.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't follow up.

Yesterday, I spent about an hour sending follow-up emails to people who I've chatted with in the last month or so, to check in and see how they're making out.

But I won't hound or chase them. No singing love songs from their front lawn at midnight, no putting them up on a pedestal.

I'm only able to do this because I have a funnel in place that brings me new coaching leads every single day. Without a funnel, you're going to have to slobber over anyone who comes in your line of sight.

And it won't be pretty!

If you want to create an inexpensive funnel that takes just 10 minutes to build AND works, check out the live training that I'm doing with Maggie Mae tomorrow at 2 pm EST:

PS: During the training, Maggie will be building a "discovery call funnel" designed to get you more of those calls. More discovery calls = more clients. Here's the link again:
