Digging for buried treasure

Published: Tue, 11/22/16

One of my favourite shows is The Curse of Oak Island - a reality show on the History Channel.

The show follows two brothers - Rick and Marty Lagina - who bought the rights to dig on Oak Island, a mysterious island in my neck of the woods (Atlantic Canada) that's rumoured to be hiding buried treasure.

The Lagina brothers became obsessed with the island when they were kids, after reading a short article about it in a 1965 issue of Reader's Digest

That one article sparked something.  It led them to invest a ton of money (millions) in their quest and to spend their prime years searching for something that may not even be there.

In the last few seasons, they've:

Dug a bunch of holes (with VERY expensive equipment).

Endured numerous setbacks and disappointments.

Spent way more money than they ever anticipated ...

Yet they've continued with their mission, when many others would have taken their shovels and gone home.

Entrepreneurs aren't much different than treasure hunters.

Neither are guaranteed success, and we're looked at like we're crazy by most of the people in society.

One day we're on the top of the world, and the next we're tempted to give up.

Yet our mission keeps drawing us back, just like Oak Island keeps a hold of Rick and Marty.

If you're getting frustrated, keep digging.

If it helps to motivate you, envision someone else picking up your shovel and finding treasure where you just left.

Think of the feeling when you pull it off.

You can do it,

Marc
