I'm moving
today.
Even though I hired movers to handle it, it's still been a lot of work packing and lugging stuff around this week.
I enjoy moving about as much as getting a root canal, or watching the Yankees win the World Series :)
I've known the moving date for quite some time, but the task of packing boxes and preparing for it was pushed to the back-burner.
There was always something
else that was "more important": another email that had to get sent out ... A blog post that had to be written ... Calls that had to be made.
Whenever the little voice whispered about preparing for the move, I found another activity to replace it.
But the last few days I finally got to it. I blocked off my calendar and took just a fraction of the calls this week that I would have normally
taken.
Why the sudden change? A deadline was fast-approaching.
Once this week hit, my hand was forced by that deadline. With November 25th nearing, I had to prioritize my moving stuff.
And I got it done. That's how important deadlines are.
If you need to get something done, there's no better way than setting a deadline.
I once heard of a
good trick for completing deadlines. A guest on my podcast recommended that you write a cheque to donate to a cause that you detest. You then give it to a trusted friend, with instructions to mail the donation if you don't achieve what you need to do by your deadline.
For example, the US Presidential election is now over but you could have made a $1000 donation to either Donald Trump's or Hillary Clinton's campaign (depending on your political leanings)
to motivate you to hit your target.
One of the things that I do is keep my clients accountable on their deadlines. If you're a coach who wants help getting more done in less time, check this out:
