When I was speaking on a panel at the Social Media Marketing World conference a few days ago, a woman came to the
mic during the Q & A time and asked a powerful question.
We were discussing Facebook groups, and she has a dilemma.
She helps run a Facebook group for a Jewish organizations, and they've been dealing with increased threats lately, including bombings from lunatics.
She wanted to know if she should change the groups from being public to "secret", so they were harder to find on Facebook.
I said "no".
Trying to hide from harassers is a perfectly logical action in this situation. I don't blame her for considering it at all, but I told her that if she hides then they win.
I've dealt with my share of bullies in my entrepreneurial life, although nothing as serious as what she's dealing with.
For awhile, I stayed back and played small.
I didn't want to bring more crap my way, and figured it would work.
It didn't. It only made me miserable for not pursuing what I should have been pursuing.
It was when I threw off the handcuffs and got rid of any fear of my harassers that things really took off for me.
It's liberating.
You won't please the bullies and haters out there.
Best to do your thing. Go after what you want, and don't dim your light to try to avoid them.
I hope that lady listens to my advice, and puts her foot on the gas with the activities for her organization.
I shared a lot during my panel on Facebook groups, but I put even more in my new program, Facebook Group Gold. There's over 6 hours of trainings on Facebook groups, and more than 10 interviews with superstar group
owners to soak in too:
