You can't survive on chipmunks

I'm reading a book by Newt Gingrich called Understanding Trump, and something from it really stood out for me.

If you aren't a Gingrich fan, or you despise Trump and anything Republican, stick with me here. You can still learn something that will help your business.

Gingrich, who at one time worked for President Ronald Reagan, says that for a president to be successful he has to be a lion.

Lions can't hunt chipmunks, because even if they catch them the lions will starve to death.

Lions have to hunt big animals - like antelope - to survive.  He uses the example of Reagan focusing on defeating the Soviet Union, growing the US economy, and reviving the American spirit as his "antelopes".

Gingrich writes:

=====

"Every time a chipmunk ran into his office, President Reagan would listen patiently, and then say, 'Have you met my chief of staff?' That's how Jim Baker amassed the largest chipmunk collection in the world"

=====

Even if you aren't planning on occupying the White House, this lesson can help you with your coaching business (or any business, for that matter).

If you spend your days chasing chipmunks, you're not going to be as successful as you should be.

Chipmunks could be people who want everything for free (good ole "cheaple" and "freeple"), or eating up hours each day fighting in pointless political debates with strangers who live 1000 miles away from you.

Take some time to identify the antelopes that you should be chasing, and also what the chipmunks are in your life.  Then make a commitment to only hunt the stuff that will keep your tummy full.

One of the antelopes that I focus on is my Secret Coach Club newsletter. It's helping a lot of coaches get more clients, so I love spending my energy on it. Check it out here:
