I've always had a thing about rooting for the
underdog.
That's why I like Rocky, and cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs (who haven't won the Stanley Cup since 1967, and are underdogs every single season).
I'm currently reading John McCain's new book, The Restless Wave, and he recounts his experience when winning the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
McCain entered the race as the favourite, but quickly lost support and his
campaign burned through cash.
It got so bad by the summer of '08 that everyone wrote him off. He had to fire most of his team, and (gasp) even carry his own bags!
Every day, the press speculated whether this would be the day that McCain called it quits and threw in the towel.
At the right moment, an advisor (Steve Schmidt) gave him the shot in the arm that he
needed:
"Stay in crappy hotels ... Get out some lawn chairs and sit outside and drink a couple of beers with the buddies at night. After all, there was nothing left to lose. You're a fan of literature. You're a fan of the movies. Plays have three acts. Movies have narrative arcs. Your campaign is dead ... there is only one narrative left—the comeback. You have no choice, sir."
McCain took that advice
to heart, and staged one of the greatest political comebacks in modern times to win the New Hampshire primary and then the Republican nomination (before losing to Obama in the general election)
Just as politicians have had to make comebacks, so too do online entrepreneurs.
If your current financial position is like McCain's was in the summer of 2008, you can make a comeback.
It'll require doing things
differently and thinking outside the box, but it can be done.
I've had to make my own comeback in life (several times) - if I can do it, you can too.
