Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (try saying that 10 times fast) turns 84
today.
Csikszentmihalyi is best known for coining the word "flow", and he wrote the famous book of the same name.
His book is especially important in 2018. I don't know about you, but it's not easy to achieve a flow state in today's hyper-active, noisy social media world.
If you aren't on your toes, it's easy to get sucked into your Facebook news feed. Checking out one post can turn into a 30 minute
adventure (or longer).
So what can you do?
Option A): Get off Facebook altogether, which my friend Ryan did a few years back (and managed to remain off it), but FB can be a great source of business for coaches so I wouldn't recommend that.
Option B): Install a browser extension like "Facebook News Feed Eradicator for Chrome", but I tried that once and felt cut off - especially since I like to keep
tabs on what my clients are posting.
Option C): This sounds very elementary and like common sense, but it could work for you ... I recently wrote on a yellow sticky note: "No surfing Facebook, Marc!" (I used my own name for emphasis), I put the note on the wall in my office, in my line of sight when I'm on my laptop. Surprisingly, this approach has worked well.
Option D): "The Drive-By Posting" approach: You post what
you want to post on FB and then close the window ASAP. Don't wait around for comments, just close it and check back in a few hours later.
Using some of these approaches can help you get into flow, and stay there.
