There’s an episode of “Star Trek: Voyager” that stood out for
me.
I haven’t watched much of that show, I’m more of a “Star Wars” guy, but this one struck a chord with me.
In the episode, called “Scientific Method”, the crew of the Voyager start experiencing strange illnesses.
The Captain has excruciating headaches, another member ages by decades and loses his hair and his sight. Others have seizures and even start to give off strange
odours.
Given the situation, everyone is feeling pretty negative and drained of their energy.
Near the end of the episode, they discover an alien race has cloaked themselves and are conducting experiments on the crew to see how they respond.
These invisible aliens are standing right next to the crew, shoving pins in their heads and doing other stuff, and recording the results of their
experiments.
While we’re lucky to not have to worry about invisible aliens conducting experiments on us (that I’m aware of), we face our own version of this when we allow negative people into our lives.
Most people are being drained of energy by negative friends, family, and co-workers.
They’re being distracted from their goals and taking on unnecessary stress, and they don’t even realize
it.
That's why I like doing my coaching calls with clients every week, not every two weeks like other coaches do.
I find that when there’s 14 days between calls, it’s too long and the chances of the clients being dragged down by negative people in their lives is much greater.
I once worked with a client who was on cloud nine after our call. He was pumped and ready to tackle the action items he had to
do.
He rescheduled our following week’s call, so the next time we did a session was two weeks later, and it was like I was talking with a different person. He started doubting the plan we had in place, second-guessing what he knew he had to do, and he lost the confidence that he had …
When I asked some questions, he admitted that he was getting a hard time from his family (none of whom had ever run a business, yet had no problem
giving him unsolicited advice about his).
If you want to be around positive people who push you towards your goals, I’m now filling my next “10 Clients In 90 Days” group program.
I’m capping it at six coaches, and no negative ones are allowed in.
