This past week there has been a flood of folks flocking over to Parler, which bills itself as an unbiased social media platform that
supports free speech.
I'd say that at least 100-200 of my Facebook friends signed up and made FB posts like:
"Join me on Parler, I'm @name"
Although I'm on there (@marcmawhinney if you'd like to connect ... original username, I know), I can't say if I'll be doing anything on it.
I haven't made a single post yet, and I'm hesitant to add yet another social media platform to my plate.
If anything I'm trying to limit my time on social media, not expand it.
So while I understand that Facebook and Twitter have their problems (including censorship issues and questionable "fact checkers"), the jury is still out for me about Parler.
(I also signed up for MeWe, which has more of a Facebook feel to it, but I haven't done anything on that either).
My two cents re: social media is that while it can bring in a lot of business, it's best not to build your house completely on that pile of sand.
I'd rather continue to grow my email list, my podcast audience, and other things so I'm not putting all of my eggs in the social media basket.
