Once upon a time, I used the same scripted
questions for my podcast.
While they would vary occasionally, there was a core group of questions that I stuck to asking everyone.
After about 100 or so episodes, I got bored of this approach and decided to ditch the script and go with a much more freestyle method of interviewing.
Now, I have some questions that I know I want to ask beforehand, and I chat with the guest before hitting "record" to decide on a theme for the episode, but I usually wait until the interview is rolling to see where things will go.
I've now interviewed over 620 guests for "Natural Born Coaches", and you'd think that I'd have this thing down pat and never be stuck on what to ask ...
But I was recording an episode a few weeks back and found myself at a loss for the next question.
Luckily, the skies opened up, and a bright light came down to save me!
Well, it wasn't literally a bright light from heaven, but I had a lifeline that was taped on my office wall that my eyes scanned over to.
That lifeline is a list of interesting questions to ask during podcast interviews that my client Erik K. Johnson ("The Podcast Talent Coach") gave me, and a quick look at it got my noggin unjammed and kept the episode moving along.
This handy list can be used not only for podcast interviews, but if you're hosting summits, Facebook Lives, etc (basically anytime you have to ask questions).
Erik has agreed to let me give the list as a bonus insert in the September mailing for Secret Coach Club, and if you do any interviews you should have it on your wall like I do.
The deadline to get it is this Sunday at midnight (EST), and you can subscribe here:
