Despite being regarded as the greatest actor of all time by many, Marlon Brando started "phoning it in" with roles late in his
career.
For example, in "Superman: The Movie", where he played Superman's father Jor-El in a small cameo:
Legend has it that Brando wanted to play the role as a bagel, arguing "How do we know what the people on Krypton looked like?".
And despite being paid more than $3 million for just two minutes of screen time, Brando exerted little effort. Christopher Reeve, who played the title role, couldn't hide his disappointment and said it was sad that a star as big as Brando "didn't give a damn".
In 1996's remake of "The Island of Dr.Moreau", Brando's behaviour literally drove the director Richard Stanley crazy and led to that film being called one of the biggest disasters of all time (note: check out the documentary "Lost Soul" to see how Brando and Val Kilmer destroyed the director's sanity).
Not that coaches can't learn some things from Brando - in his prime he revolutionized acting, and insisted that he be paid well and upfront for his roles (not bad advice for any entrepreneur).
But his is a cautionary tale of not losing your passion and just going through the motions.
